CIE

About CIE
University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) is the world’s largest provider of international qualifications for 14–19 year olds. We are part of the University of Cambridge and a not-for-profit organisation.
Our Mission
Our mission is to work in partnership with education providers worldwide to deliver high-quality and leading-edge assessment services. We aim to be the preferred international provider of assessment services in the world through harnessing potential, lasting partnerships, high quality, charitable status and innovation.
Developing successful students
CIE was formally established in 1998 to provide high-quality, leading-edge qualifications that meet the ongoing demands of employers and educators across the world.
We offer a broad range of internationally recognised qualifications, both academic and vocational, which we have designed to develop successful students worldwide. These include general qualifications including Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge International A Level, Cambridge O Level and Cambridge Pre-U, a new post-16 qualification, plus a range of vocational Cambridge International Diplomas.
Working with governments around the world
For nearly 150 years CIE has worked in partnership with ministries of education, qualifications authorities and examination and assessment boards around the world. In some countries such as Singapore Cambridge examinations are the state qualification for students in secondary school. Tens of thousands of students take Cambridge O Levels every year.
In other parts of the world such as Botswana, Namibia and Swaziland, CIE has worked with governments to reform education systems, and helped to localise examinations by training officials, teachers, markers and examiners in curriculum development and assessment.
Supporting teachers
Teachers who are well supported are able to offer the best education possible and develop successful students. CIE offers teachers an extensive programme of training events and services, providing professional development and support including online training, face-to-face training, e-learning and training via video conferencing.
Where we work
CIE operates in 150 countries around the world including the UK and Europe, South Asia, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, North America, Central and South America and Africa.
Governance
CIE is part of Cambridge Assessment, Europe’s largest assessment agency and a department of the University of Cambridge. Cambridge Assessment was established in 1858 as the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES), and it will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2008.
We have a board of directors. CIE’s Chief Executive sits on the Cambridge Assessment Group board. This is in turn governed by a Syndicate Committee with representatives of the University of Cambridge.
Staffing
CIE employs 170 staff in the UK and has regional representatives around the world and we work with around 7,000 examiners.

It is some years since I first set up this site in 2004, when I finished IGCSE, then I added IB, and now I am a second year medical student in London! Its amazing how far this site has come, especially with the help of dedicated users like you, who have submitted notes to help others.
As an IGCSE student and IB student, I was always looking for revision notes and study guides to help me with my exams and essays. However, I found that these were sorely lacking, and the best bet was to go over all the resources I had, and make my own study notes. When I finished my final exams, I found that I now had heaps of revision notes, but they might as well have been scrap paper. So I came up with the idea of putting them all up on the internet, so that perhaps they could help others, as they helped me.
I also thought that it would be usefull if I also included some revision techniques and exam technique guides, as a secondary resource to help students study. I know that in my school we got study skills lessons in the lower grades, however, not allschools provide this.
